Death is all phenomenon in which a cessation of life and, particularly, human life takes place. This study looks for arguments about death and the consequent process of mourning; some concepts referring to death are employed, aspects related to what is understood by biological and social death; as well as a revision through time of the handling of funeral rites, that somehow favors the acceptance of this for the people who confront this event. The stages passed through during the difficult process of mourning are studied. With the intention to understand death we found that in mourning, a set of mental representations and accompanied conducts provides elements that make the elaboration of this process effective.
