This study aimed to identify the trend of scientific production of Brazilian Nursing in theses and dissertations, concerning the use of medicinal plants for health care. This is a qualitative study, descriptive in nature, structured through a narrative review of the literature. The results were obtained by searching online, which occurred in May 2013, the Portal of theses and dissertations of the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). Being selected as inclusion and exclusion criteria 19 productions. To facilitate the analysis and discussion of results productions were separated into trends: Knowledge and practices about the popular use of Medicinal Plants, Professional Knowledge and practices regarding the use of Medicinal Plants Research and effectiveness of species. In general the findings demonstrate the importance of the participation of health professionals, especially nurses, in studies and research involving the use of medicinal plants. Acting as facilitator redemption of traditional knowledge and its scientific validation.
