Abstract

LOPEZ VILLAESCUSA, María Teresa; MARTINEZ MARTINEZ, María Luisa; FAURA BERRUGA, Cristina  and  PEREZ GARCIA, Lorenzo. Disseminated Herpes Zoster. Rev Clin Med Fam [online]. 2012, vol.5, n.1, pp.64-66. ISSN 2386-8201.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1699-695X2012000100012.

Herpes zoster infection produces a characteristic eruption, and is the result of reactivation of herpes varicella-zoster virus within the sensory ganglia, where the virus can remain latent since the initial infection. The most common acute complication is postherpetic neuralgia, but the most serious complication is dissemination of the infection which can compromise overall health and organ function. The goal of early anti-viral treatment is to prevent these complications.
