Abstract

D'OTTAVIO CATTAN, Alberto Enrique. Doctor Finlay. Acknowledging Archibald Joseph Cronin. Rev Med Cine [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.4, pp.309-313.  Epub May 30, 2022. ISSN 1885-5210.  https://dx.doi.org/10.14201/rmc2021174309313.

The present paper completes a previous one dedicated to Archibald Joseph Cronin and means a deep appreciation to him and to many people, books and films that guided me towards that captivating and endless adventure that Medicine is.

In this regard, it reviews a Scottish television product based on stories by that writing-doctor about a fictional physician in the Scottish, imaginary and lake village of Tannochbrae, after World War II.

This series, continuation of the successful 191-episode BBC series Casebook by Dr. Finlay (1962-1971), comprises four seasons of twenty-seven dramatic and moving episodes (six episodes per year in 1993 and 1994, seven in 1995, and eight in 1996).

Beyond the diverse human situations among the residents at Arden house, it addresses unavoidable political, social, health and cinematographic aspects, included in the series and derived from it.

Keywords : Doctor Finlay; Cronin; Scotland; medicine; cinema; film; series; episodes.
