Abstract

ARRIAGA ARELLANO, Elena  and  LINARES SALGADO, Jorge E.. The risk assessment of transgenic plants: from regulation to bioethics. Rev. Bioética y Derecho [online]. 2013, n.27, pp.38-57. ISSN 1886-5887.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1886-58872013000100005.

Despite the regulations there are no mandatory nor official guidelines for establishing the minimum elements for environmental risk assessment (ERA) of GM crops. Criteria for decision making have not been defined, and there are no peer-reviewed scientific nor socio - economic studies showing the benefits and risks of these products in comparison with the use of other technologies in agriculture. This situation has raised an "artificial uncertainty" related to transgenic crops and in this paper we propose a more sustainable strategy by including a bioethical soundness ERA.

Keywords : risk; transgenic; biosafety; bioethics.
