Abstract

LAMM, Eleonora. Umbilical cord blood banks: autonomy against social justice. Rev. Bioética y Derecho [online]. 2014, n.32, pp.20-33. ISSN 1886-5887.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1886-58872014000300003.

In this paper I analize the advantages and disadvantages of autologous and allogeneic use of hematopoietic stem cells from cord blood and if it is convenient to store them in public or private banks. The aim is to provide arguments for a debate that reflects fundamental moral issues of health systems, the rights and responsibilities of citizens in liberal democracies, the commitments we have with the generational equity and the property issues of human tissues.

Keywords : biobanks; stem cells; umbilical cord blood.
