The purpose of this article is to present some of the particularities, scope and limits of privacy, confidentiality and anonymity in the field of social sciences research ethics. The article is organized in three sections. Firstly, I define and distinguish the concepts of privacy and confidentiality, and their unique characteristics in social research. Secondly, I analyze some current debates and criticisms of anonymity. Finally, I examine some problems about the protection of information and the challenges involving new social research environments.
