Abstract

CARRENO RIMAUDO, Susana  and  LLOBETA, Bartolomé Enrique. Vulnerability and subject in research with human beings: a reflection. Rev. Bioética y Derecho [online]. 2021, n.51, pp.225-241.  Epub Mar 29, 2021. ISSN 1886-5887.

Subject is the person who participates in a health research, providing "himself" for different measurements that will allow new knowledge and the advancement of health sciences. Some subjects who present some social, economic, cultural, physical or mental health condition that prevents them from making autonomous decisions are described as "vulnerable". This article reviews the concept of vulnerability from the philosophical and the normative views, to reflect on the actions to be taken to minimize this condition. The responsibilities of the actors involved in the design, execution and communication of investigations and in their ethical and regulatory control, in the safeguarding and protection of vulnerable subjects are analyzed.
