Abstract
MERINO MARTIN, A.J.. What does a Guardia Civil military doctor’s job consist of?. Sanid. Mil. [online]. 2017, vol.73, n.3, pp.173-177. ISSN 1887-8571. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s1887-85712017000300006.
The task of a Guardia Civil military doctor has long been a peculiar, rewarding and unknown service, mostly unknown to the new components of the Health Military Corps. We provide medical care to the members of the Guardia Civil and their families, control and follo-up the leaves and give medical support in peace-keeping and humanitarian missions. Control and follow-up of the legally supported leaves is particularly important as it is a basic component of the correct control of labour absenteeism. From 2007 a General Order on Leaves due to health problems has been operating, giving full powers of medical inspection to military doctors, which has resulted in a reduction of absenteeism and the subsequent prevention of fraud and abuse. Our key activity is to control the service leaves and it is similar to the one of a company doctor. This implies a command supporting role within a peculiar environment in a highly professionalised institution which is, in addition, spread all over Spanish geography.
