Surgical tracheostomy has well established indications in patients with prolonged intubation. In this article, we present the cases of surgical tracheostomies performed at the Military Hospital of Madrid in the first phase of the COVID 19 pandemic, with 21 cases between the months of april and june 2020. We present our methodology with the material and resources that we use and have adapted to the needs of a reduced space, when performing procedures in the intensive care unit, the presence of few personnel and the added difficulty of using protective equipment.

Keywords : Tracheostomy; surgical; intensive care unit; COVID 19.
