Abstract

The former albéitares and veterinarians of the Army, 250 years ago already in Spain, collaborated in the control and eradication of epidemic diseases of cattle (epizootics), not only in animals property of the Army itself but also in animals of the population in general. We present the activity carried out by two major marshals, D. Francisco González, major marshal and master albéitar, and D. Ramón Martín, major marshal and veterinarian, in their activity against glanders epizootics in Aragon and Mallorca, at the end from the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, respectively.
