This paper presents the main results of a research on the current situation of elderly people living in Nursing Homes in Spain. The method followed is a literature review on the topic and an analysis and comparison of statistical studies by the Spanish Institute of Statistics and Eurostat-Database. A questionnaire was developed in the form of document data search for the analysis of the following variables: number of Nursing Homes per Autonomous Communities, number of elderly living in Nursing Homes per Autonomous Communities, age, sex and marital status of the elderly living in Nursing Homes, age groups, loneliness, morbidity, consumption of Drugs, drug types consumed, perception of health status, frequent pathologies, frequent chronic pathologies, activities of daily living, disability, types of disabilities. This article presents the main results. It concludes that the negative impact of the economic crisis and the austerity policies adopted by the government have directly affected elderly people with disabilities. It is recommended to recover the investment in the sector to give an efficient response to the increasing longevity of the population in the coming decades. Moreover it is necessary to increase the supply of Nursing Homes at affordable prices.
