Abstract

Breastfeeding is difficult for single refugee mothers due to the diversity of negative factors that are present in their environment.
Method:
Qualitative study with hermeneutic phenomenological approach. Six refugee single mothers, selected by reference chain, participated, phenomenological interviews analyzed by Martin Heidegger's hermeneutic circle were conducted.
Conclusions:
For the mothers breastfeeding is a way of providing affection, care, protection, also a bond that keeps them together. They feel privileged to be able to breastfeed in spite of the adversities and negative feelings they have due to their vulnerability during their stay in the shelter.
