Abstract

Introduction:

Cancer, a public health problem whose appearance entails vital changes that cause mourning.

Objective:

To analyze grief in hospitalized cancer adults.

Methods:

Qualitative, descriptive, ten adults participated according to selection criteria. Non-random data collection, through interview; speech is transcribed and analyzed. Ethical criteria and rigor were met.

Results:

“Internal coping after learning about the disease” and “Generating a new life through cancer”.

Conclusion:

Upon learning the diagnosis, patients experience fear of dying, sadness and isolation; Over time they recognize support networks and accept changes in their lives, clinging to the religious and spiritual
