Abstract

Objective:

to analyse the current scientific evidence of the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries in musicians.

Material and Methods:

cinahl, Medline and Pubmed were consulted using the keywords “musculoskeletal diseases”, “musicians” and “epidemiology”.

Results:

thirteen studies were selected and showed different rates of injury prevalence in professional musicians and students.

Discussion:

some studies asked about symptoms through a questionnaire and others performed a physical examination. Some studies provided results depending on the body regions most affected, while others depending on the type of instrument. Some research asked about injuries while others also asked about the measures used to deal with them.

Conclusions:

there is a high prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries in professional musicians, even in the early stages of musical training when they are students.
