Abstract:
36-year-old worker who performs painting tasks with a car gun and begins with asthenia, dyspnea, mucosal irritation, confusion and weakness in the limbs, after his working day. Previous respiratory function studies were normal and urine toxicity negative. The worker is removed from his work activity and contributes new studies with a bronchial provocation test with methacholine compatible with asthma, not detected in previous studies. Isocyanates are compounds widely used within the industry for the manufacture of insulation and foam. Contact or inhalation of these vapors cause irritation of the skin and mucosa. They are also respiratory sensitizers capable of inducing occupational asthma or aggravating a previous asthma. In order to reach a definitive diagnosis of occupational asthma, in most cases specific bronchial provocation tests are required with the sensitizing compounds.
