Abstract

PALUCCI MARZIALE, Maria Helena; COSTA MENDES, Isabel Amélia  and  BERNADETE MALERBO, Maria. Challenges in the dissemination of scientific Nursing knowledge produced in Brazil. Index Enferm [online]. 2004, vol.13, n.47, pp.75-78. ISSN 1699-5988.

The product and process of scientific activity are dependent on an efficacious communication and the journals are important means for the dissemination of knowledge. A strategy used by the scientific journals to meet excellence patterns and to achieve an international visibility is the indexation in data bases. The aim of this investigation was to identify, among the Brazilian Nursing journals, the ones indexed in international data bases and to identify, according to their editors, the problems found for these indexations. Results showed that among the 21 journals that were evaluated, none were indexed in ISI or in the Journal Citation Report, 4.8% were indexed in SciELO, 4.8% in PsycINFO, 4.8% in CAB HEALTH and CAB ABSTRACT, 4.8% in the Linguist and Language Behavior Abstract, 4.8% in the Periodicals Tables of American Contents, 19% in CUIDEN, 19% in MEDLINE, 19% in CINAHL, 66.7% in LILACS and 100% in Ulrich's. The difficulties found by editors to index their journals in international data bases were: problems to maintain timely publications due to the lack of financial resources, the adoption of national rules of publication, the deficit of bibliographical references in English and the editorial content of these journals. However, efforts are being directed to improve the editorial quality and the universalization of the knowledge produced by Brazilian Nursing.
