Abstract
PEREZ-FERRER, A. et al. Complete motor blockade with epidural ropivacaine in the post-operative of a patient with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Rev. Soc. Esp. Dolor [online]. 2005, vol.12, n.1, pp.46-49. ISSN 1134-8046.
Patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy present a high risk of anesthetic complications. Very few cases have been described of epidural anesthesia in this condition. We present a case of combined anesthesia (IV propofol and remifentanyl plus epidural ropivacaine) for a traumatological surgery. There were no intraoperatory complications, but the patient developed a complete post-operative motor blockade in response to the administration of ropivacaine 0.18% with continuous epidural perfusion. A potential increase of the sensitivity to local anesthetics as the explanation of the motor blockade in this patient is discussed.
