Abstract
APARICIO MAGALLON, Carlos; LUNDGREN, Anna Karin and RANGERT, Bo. Immediate loading (function) vs. delayed loading in implantology: Terminology and state of the art. Same-day teeth®. RCOE [online]. 2002, vol.7, n.1, pp.75-86. ISSN 1138-123X.
This work is intended to clarify frequently used terms on current implantology, that because their similarities can lead to a misunderstandings. A revision of the scientific English literature, published till May 2001, regarding the immediate function of implants that have been placed on different locations of the jaw bone, is presented. Today immediate loading of full arch mandibular fixed prostheses using Brånemark® implants and overdentures supported by ITI® implants between foramina are well documented. The use of immediate function of single teeth and short span bridges in the aesthetic zones of both jaws seems viable, but further documentation is needed before its general use. Because of its importance as a concept, the Brånemark System Novum® will be described as the best representative of the immediate function.
