Abstract
PEREZ GARCIA, A. et al. Toxic shock syndrome in small burns. Rev Pediatr Aten Primaria [online]. 2011, vol.13, n.50, pp.247-254. ISSN 1139-7632.
Small and superficial burns usually heal spontaneously, without the need of a Burn Unit. Toxic shock syndrome is a serious disease that produces a sudden general worsening in these patients. The diagnosis of this syndrome is difficult because, in the initial stages, the signs and symptoms resemble other common childhood illnesses. Mortality is high without an early diagnosis and treatment. From the Pediatrics Department and the Plastic Surgery´s Burn Centre at Hospital Universitario La Fe we present the description of this disease´s features in burnt patients, as well as a case treated in our centre, in order to remind pediatricians of its importance and help them in the early diagnosis of this syndrome.
Keywords : Toxic shock syndrome; Burns; Primary care.
