Abstract
PALMI GUERRERO, J. and RIERA RIERA, J.. The athlete's competences for performance. CPD [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.1, pp.13-18. ISSN 1989-5879.
In this article we approach with illusion, conviction and humility a proposal of an explanatory model that would contribute to the conceptualization and development of Sports Psychology in its application to performance training. In a first section we present some conclusions drawn from the analysis of recent papers published in specialized journals. The analysis revealed a high prevalence of studies with a good internal validity methodology, but with a moderate external validity and suggest the need to extend theoretical-conceptual models. Next, we analyse the athlete's skills related to the sport and which are grouped according to the athlete's relationships with the activity's specific environment, the objects, the athletes, the norms and the knowledge that he acquires from his activity. Finally, we develop the athlete's competences with oneself: activation control, attention, thoughts, mental imagery, goals, behaviours and emotions. These athlete's competences are improved by training the skills: recognizing what is most adequate, detecting decompensation factors, reconverting the inadequate to adequate, and by the effective application of what is learned during training to the competition.
