Abstract

Objective:

Describe the nursing experience in modifying the health services of the Orthopedic Hospital "Frank País" to anti-epidemic COVID-19.

Methods:

Experience report article carried out by the "Frank País" Orthopedic Hospital in the period between March and May 2020. Descriptive study with the obtaining of information from the experience lived by professionals, consultations with experts and bibliographic review.

Results:

Hospital services and flows were reorganized, continuous training related to the subject, experience in caring for patients with highly contagious respiratory disease (COVID-19), and teamwork, essential to achieve success in the face of an epidemic

Conclusions:

The transformation of a specialization hospital into an epidemiological clinical hospital revealed the need to develop competencies to strengthen the most advanced nursing functions that lead to improving the quality of health care and more in the new healthcare settings that place these professionals in the front line of combat.
