Abstract

This article discuss some fundamental ethical elements to consider in the intervention in people with schizophrenia in the clinical and community treatment. Discussed concepts are vulnerability, autonomy and paternalism, informed consent and confidentiality. It addresses the need that mental health professionals reflect on the type of interventions performed, integrating patients' opinions and will, as well as of their relatives and / or legal guardians. It raises questions about whether or not these aspects are considered and how to improve them, safeguarding the interests of those involved and not transgressing respect and dignity, within a minimum ethical framework.
