LOPERA-ARANGO, Alex Mauricio. Decision-making in nursing: basic sciences as a basis for achieving professional autonomy. Index Enferm [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.4, pp.284-288. Epub 17-Abr-2023. ISSN 1699-5988. https://dx.doi.org/10.58807/indexenferm20225170.
In the practice of nursing, there are several elements that come together to allow the nurse the comprehensive approach and decision making for quality care. To reach this level, it is important to highlight the basic sciences in professional training and how they guide decision making in care. Thus, this article theorizes on how the teaching of basic sciences facilitates decision making in nursing, promoting professional autonomy since it allows building clinical judgment, critical thinking, and professional empowerment. In this sense, it is necessary that nurses make use of the knowledge acquired during their education, especially the basic sciences that are the foundation for quality nursing care and that will lead to decision making as a responsible process that combines the application of previous knowledge with clinical practice and that will allow autonomy and professional empowerment.
