Resumen

MANRIQUE SOLANA, Rafael. The problem of emotional intelligence. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2015, vol.35, n.128, pp.801-814. ISSN 2340-2733.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S0211-57352015000400008.

Emotional intelligence as a concept and practice is revised in this article in a critical way. This concept does not seem to fulfill the required demands of accuracy and scientificity approach. On the one hand it derives from positivism and, on the other, from innatism. This makes it contradictory and ambivalent. Frequently it is tinged with emotionalism which is not related to emotions as elements of assessment of the real state of a person or their motivation for a critical action in their inner and outer world. The training it proposes and the concepts it applies eventually depend completely on the personality and the interest of those who apply it. Likewise its link to the training of workers and managers converts it into a biased instrument of personnel selection. There is no interconnection in its texts with cultural variables such as differences of class, country, gender, age and previous training, and this has very important political implications in so far as it promotes an uncritical view of the current neoliberal practices. Accepting the fact that intelligence and emotion are basic variables of human existence, another way of conceiving and applying these important notions is proposed.

Palabras clave : Emotional intelligence; neoliberalism; criticism; psychotherapy; training.
