SANCHEZ VAZQUEZ, Vicente; GUIJARRO GRANADOS, Teresa y SANZ LOPEZ, Yolanda. Psychological observation in spanish juvenile courts (1889-1975): (I) Capuchin brothers and psychology. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2004, n.92, pp.113-129. ISSN 2340-2733.
At the beginning of the 20th century Juvenile Courts were set up in Spain. The Juvenile Courts Law, promulgated in 1918, states the need of setting up Observation Homes run by specialised staff trained in juvenile experimental psychology. Tertiary Capuchin brothers took charge of these Juveniles homes, not without the opposition of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza. This first article deals with a historical approach to the relation of friars to psychology, their political and ideological determinants, and their criminological model.
Palabras clave : psychological evaluation; Juvenile Courts; juvenile delinquency; history of psychology.
