RESTREPO OSPINA, D.P. y ARDILA MEDINA, C.M.. Adverse reactions caused by biomaterials used in prosthodontics. Av Odontoestomatol [online]. 2010, vol.26, n.1, pp.19-30. ISSN 2340-3152.
The incidence of adverse reactions to dental products is difficult to estimate. Dentists use many potential allergens and irritants in the course of their work. These materials include antiseptics, local anaesthetics, ultraviolet radiation, latex gloves, rubber dams, mouthwashes and other dental hygiene materials. Besides, the materials used during the restorative procedures as metals, impression materials, cements, acrylics, and adhesives can also produce undesirable effects in the tissues of patients. The presentation of oral complaints can include stomatitis, lichenoid reactions, burning in the mouth, cheilitis and lip swelling, facial swelling, general symptoms and anaphylaxis.
