FONSECA PORTILLA, G.  y  VARGAS NARANJO, S.. Lesser saphenous venofasciocutaneous flap for leg reconstruction: San Juan de Dios Hospital in Costa Rica, 2004-2009. Cir. plást. iberolatinoam. Lesser saphenous venofasciocutaneous flap is used for leg reconstruction with success in diverse latitudes with different results. The aim of this article is to describe the patient population who have underwent leg reconstruction with this flap in the Plastic Surgery Unit, San Juan de Dios Hospital in San José, Costa Rica, from March 2004 to March 2009 and the adverse effects suffered (necrosis and nosocomial infection). We applied the technique to a total of 14 patients, whose average age was 46.6 years and predominant sex was male (71.4 %). Flap necrosis occurred in 50 % of cases and 28.6 % of them were total. Nosocomial infection also in this type of procedure was 33.3 %. We conclude that lesser saphenous venofasciocutaneous flap is a useful tool for reconstruction of leg, but we should be especially careful to avoid possible complications that could affect the outcome of the procedure.
