Resumen
LORDA-BARRAGUER, Elena. Spanish Society of Plastic Surgery in Africa: my experience in Togo and Liberia. Cir. plást. iberolatinoam. [online]. 2017, vol.43, n.2, pp.203-216. ISSN 1989-2055.
In this article I explain my experience during my visits to Africa in 5 different surgical campaigns, including the first one of the Spanish Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Society in Liberia. I would like to point out that it is possible to do an efficient reconstructive surgery with limited resources if good local logistics are present. Even if international cooperation visits are short in time, plastic and reconstructive surgery is capable of enhancing the quality of life of lots of African patients making these trips necessary. After reviewing all our cases, we observed that burn sequels, cleft lips and skin ulcers are the most common type of pathologies encountered. I also describe the work conditions I encountered and our methodology to help future expeditions, an experience I strongly recommend all my colleagues to do.
