Resumen

SCHLEGEL-ACUNA, Cristian Giovanni. Sociocultural epidemiology and intercultural dialogue for health work in indigenous peoples of Chile. Index Enferm [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.2, e14371.  Epub 14-Nov-2023. ISSN 1699-5988.  https://dx.doi.org/10.58807/indexenferm20235820.

Interpreting health from a single model represents a bias in the approach to the social and health reality in a group. Bias that increases in indigenous communities, where there are problems understood only by those communities and that are not considered by the official model. Sociocultural epidemiology and intercultural dialogue are based on a social construction of diverse societies, which require developing processes that allow the interaction of different knowledge systems, as an instrument to strengthen respect and generate equal opportunities for people. In relation to this, an approach is proposed from the characteristics of a territory with a high presence of indigenous population, establishing a present issue, precisely in relation to the establishment of a hegemonic and colonial health.
