RODRIGUEZ MARMOL, María  y  MUNOZ CRUZ, Rafael. Subjective sleep quality in institutionalized elderly and non-institutionalized of the city of Jaen. Gerokomos [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.2, pp.53-57. ISSN 1134-928X.

Objective: To determine the characteristics associated with the dream of a group of institutionalized elderly and others who live at home, studying subjective sleep satisfaction based on place of residence. Method: cross-sectional study of 187 elderly divided into two groups based on the place of residence. The information was collected between January and April 2015 using a self-administered questionnaire, sleep quality questionnaire Oviedo (Cronbach α = 0.76), a questionnaire consisting of 15 items with Likert scale responses. Results: The subjective sleep satisfaction was more positive in those elderly living at home compared to those living in a nursing home (average 2.49 points versus 4.05). There are certain characteristics of sleep that is not influenced by institutionalization, as sometimes has been awakened during the night, sleep efficiency, thrash, snoring and other sleep disturbances. Conclusions: The institutionalization negatively influences the subjective feeling of sleep. This institutionalization does not influence in any way snoring, nightmares or sleep efficiency of the elders who were surveyed.
