Resumen

Main objective:

to describe the prevalence and analyze the sociodemographic factors associated with having suffered unintentional injury in the population under 15 years in Spain in 2011. Secondary objectives: To describe the place where the accident occurs, the assistance and the damage occurred.

Methods:

cross-sectional study of the National Health Survey (2011/ 2012). A descriptive and multivariate analysis was carried out, stratified by sex, using logistic regression.

Results:

the prevalence of lesions was 7.68 % (CI 95% 6.97-8.39); being more common in boys and between 5 and 15 years old. Most of the injuries occurred at home (25.3%). 75.6% of the injured went to an emergency department. The most common damage was superficial bruises or injuries (63.5 %).

Conclusions:

the prevalence of unintentional injuries among children resident in Spain in 2011 was 7.68 %. The factors associated with being injured in the pediatric population are being a boy and being older than one-year-old.
