GONZALEZ-DE DIOS, Javier. Female film directors who have contributed (and contribute) to breaking the glass ceiling. Rev Pediatr Aten Primaria [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.97, pp.e25-e46. Epub 27-Feb-2024. ISSN 1139-7632.
Abstract
The veiled limitation of the job promotion of women within organizations is called the glass ceiling. It is a ceiling that limits their professional careers, difficult to cross which could prevent them from continuing to advance in their career, and can impact many professional fields, in a wide spectrum from science to art. And that also covers the seventh art.
This article is a tribute to all those female film directors who have contributed to break through the glass ceiling. And we do so by highlighting the 74 films that Cine y Pediatría have women directing, a number that contextualizes this glass ceiling, since more than 700 films have been analyzed in the thirteen years of the project's history. We have divided the analysis into international female directors (in a tour of 51 films from Little Man Tate by Jodie Foster in 1991 to CODAby Siân Heder in 2021) and Spanish directors (in a tour of 23 films from El caminode Ana Mariscal in 1963 to Cinco lobitos by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa in 2022).
And so, once we achieve a fairer world, with more equitable and without gender gaps, we will be able to say that we live in a 'film' society.
