The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of the optimism and pessimism in the Spanish championships of each of the Olympic combat disciplines examined, as well as to assess differences by gender, ranking and champions. The total sample was 183 subjects, all of them specialist in wrestling, taekwondo and boxing. Everyone conducted the LOT-R questionnaire, in the Spanish version, 30 to 60 minutes before the official weighing of their respective national championships. The results show a higher number of male athletes optimistic (85,2%), in relation to female athletes (72,7%). The data regarding the ranking championship medalists and non-medalists were very similar for both pessimistic and optimistic. These results indicate that it may be helpful for combat athletes and their coaches develop pre-competitive scales score as well as to assist in the usual methods of talents selection.
