DUQUE-INGUNZA, A. y DOSIL, J.. Variables which impact on sport transition: a study with active football players and former football players of the first division of LFP. CPD [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.3, pp.13-24. ISSN 1989-5879.
This work presents a retrospective and prospective study of the variables which impact on sport transition and it aims to compare with the expectations of active athletics (sports people). The test is run over 66 football players and former football players from "C.A Osasuna" and "Real Sociedad de Futbol" and the questionnaire used is an adaptation in Spanish of the Sport Retirement Questionnaire (ARQ), with different versions for footballers and former footballers. The results show that the retirement of footballers was positive among the factors which were connected to a positive perception and a successful adaptation is whether the athletes felt that they had achieved their sporting objectives. In contrast, those athletes who had to retire as a result of a drop in performance had a negative view of their retirement. Active athletes don't think about retirement, but they believe it will be positive and that they will need little adjustment. These athletes found the transition more difficult than they had anticipated. Similarly, one of the strategies most used by former football players is to keep busy whereas active players think the best strategy would be to train more.
