Resumen

RODRIGUEZ SUAREZ, Nathalia  y  PRIETO MARTINEZ, Paula. Role of language in healthcare humanization. Rev. Bioética y Derecho [online]. 2021, n.52, pp.105-120.  Epub 25-Oct-2021. ISSN 1886-5887.  https://dx.doi.org/10.1344/rbd2021.52.35016.

Objective:

Studies on the doctor-patient relationship have described gaps between these agents that negatively affect the health care process. The intention of this study was to analyze the narratives of the doctor-patient encounter in the current healthcare context: a situation with a significant technology role, inclined to generate dehumanizing experiences.

Design:

This study is a qualitative narrative-retrospective type with an intentional, single-case sample. The narratives derived from a doctor-patient relationship, collected through the Associative Network (2, 3), a semi-structured interview and non-participating observation. The information was analyzed with NVivo v12(r).

Results:

The analysis of narratives generated three emerging thematic: the thelos of the medical act, the role of technology in the experience of the ICU and the process of communication between the doctor and the patient. In conclusion, there seems to be a gap in the dialogue between the doctor and the patient that could arise from the different horizons of senses between these agents, a gap that can be bridged through education processes.
