Objectives: To determine the stage of implantation and function of Acute Pain Services (APS) in the network of Public Hospitals in Andalusia (SSPA). Material and Methods: Telephonic poll addressed to all hospitals of the SSPA. Questionnaire enquiring on the existence of APS, its organization, selection of patients, follow-up, preferred analgesic options, used of devices and statistics regarding activity. Results: In Andalusia there are 32 hospitals of the SSPA, 5 are regional hospitals, 9 specialties hospitals and 18 local hospitals. The 5 regional hospitals include 10 hospital facilities, 4 of whom have an APS. All APS are led by an anaesthesiologist and give coverage on a 24/7 basis; follow-up time ranges between 24 and 72 hours. 6 of the 9 specialties hospitals have an APS, all of them with an anaesthesiologist in charge during the morning; follow-up time ranges between 48 and 96 hours. 3 of the 18 local hospitals have an APS; follow-up time ranges between 48 and 72 hours. In all cases, the preferred analgesic options are intravenous and epidural analgesia. Conclusions: APS are present in 4 of the 10 centers included in 5 regional hospitals. Andalusian local hospitals have the lowest implantation of APS.
