MILLAN NUNEZ-CORTES, Jesús y GUTIERREZ-FUENTES, José Antonio. Teaching how to be a doctor: an analysis of the opinions of doctors involved in the teaching of clinical practice (III): future prospects deriving from the analysis of the opinions of doctors involved in the teaching of clinical practice. FEM (Ed. impresa) [online]. 2014, vol.17, n.3, pp.137-142. ISSN 2014-9840. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S2014-98322014000300003.
Previously we published a survey that was the result of a qualitative analysis of the teaching of clinical practice in university hospitals affiliated to the Universidad Complutense, together with the findings from a quantitative analysis carried out by applying that survey to a significant sample of teachers involved in that kind of teaching. In this study we offer data on the opinions regarding the teaching of medicine and, more specifically, medical practice held by each of the groups that were interviewed (university professors and senior lecturers, associate lecturers, staff who do not work in teaching and medical residents). Likewise, the study also shows the degree of satisfaction of the different positions, the recognition from the academic and healthcare institution perceived by professionals, and the underlying motivations. In this regard it must be stressed that economic motivation is not the most basic or even the most frequent. On the contrary, academic recognition and motivation are first on the professionals' list, together with an interest in taking part in teaching innovation activities. The results of the study entitled 'Teaching how to be a doctor', of which this work is a part, highlight the prospects deriving from the opinions of professionals involved in the teaching of clinical practice and, consequently, the options for improving it.
