BOYACA, Cristian David y GALINDO HUERTAS, Mayra Solanye. The ceremony of light: a story from the masculinity in nursing. Index Enferm [online]. 2020, vol.29, n.4, pp.249-253. Epub 01-Nov-2021. ISSN 1699-5988.
The light ceremony symbolizes nurse students’ commitment and service to the community and their future as caregivers, the elements and meanings of the ritual are varied, but given their strong bond with the historical heritages of the profession the descriptions that accompany the meanings of this ceremony are permeated by a strong influence of the feminine. However, more and more men are part of this profession, so it is important to recognize the meanings that this ceremony generates in them and recognize how they know or experience the ritual, in order to diversify the understanding of it. This biographical account captures the experience of Charles (pseudonym) who tells us about the meanings of the light ceremony through four categories give to the experience some significant dualities, established between the importance of ritual and the need to change its meaning.
