CANO GARCIA, Laura; GARCIA DIAZ, Silvia; ORCAJO BLANCO, Cristina y SERRANO LORA, Rosa Mª. Nursing perspective on the management of patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Index Enferm [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.3, pp.265-269. Epub 06-Jun-2022. ISSN 1699-5988.
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease with multisystem involvement that requires highly specialized management. Nursing is, in many cases, the reference for the patient due to their close contact throughout the long-term patient care process and their role in patient education regarding their illness and treatment. Despite the proven versatility of the nursing staff, greater specialization in each one of the SLE patient managing aspects is necessary. This will lead to a better patient care and greater efficiency of the system. The objective of this review is to reflect the relevant role that nurses play in the diagnosis, education, treatment and follow-up of SLE patients, as well as to highlight the need to standardize procedures at a national level in order to guarantee a comprehensive and quality patient care.
