The greater population at national and international level is increasing, and as the aging process progresses, more dependence is evident. And therefore alteration of the quality of life.

Objective:

To determine self-perceived quality of life according to SF-12 Health Questionnaire in relation to chronic pain secondary to osteo-articular and / or musculoskeletal pathologies in people attended at the Specialist’s Office, Rheumatology Unit, Dr. Gustavo Hospital Fricke, in March, 2015.

Methodology:

Corresponds to study, quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional. Sample: adults 65 and over who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Instruments: Sociodemographic Survey, Health Questionnaire Short-Form-12 and Numerical Pain Scale.

Result:

Regarding the self-perceived quality of life index and pain, it indicates that there is no agreement. The relationship between dimensions of quality of life and pain, regression analysis indicates significant P values, in the dimensions Mental Health and Vitality. The relationship between self-perceived quality of life and intensity of pain, the totality is between good and regular.

Conclusion:

The study shows no dependence between chronic pain and quality of life. It follows that the quality of life is influenced by complex variable, physical, psychological and social. It is also possible to associate that older people present higher levels of self-efficacy in the period of old age, according to the latest studies on Quality of Life in Old Age in Chile. And that both variables are difficult to quantify because of the subjective component.
