GARCIA-NAVEIRA-VAAMONDE, A. Self-efficacy and performance in soccer players. CPD [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.2, pp.68-78. Epub 25-Sep-2023. ISSN 1989-5879.
The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and sports performance. The sample consists of 172 performance soccer players aged between 14 and 20 years. To measure self-efficacy, two items were created with a likert type response format (self-efficacy in attack and defense) were created, while sport performance was measured objectively (observational record of game actions in attack and defense) and subjective (player rating on attack performance and defense). The results indicate (p < .05) a positive relationship between self-efficacy in defense and defense performance (both objective and subjective), and self-efficacy in attack and attack performance (both objective and subjective). In addition, three profiles of players are obtained based on their self-effica cy, sports performance and demarcation: defensive players (high self-efficacy and defense performance), composed of goalkeepers and defenders; players of offensive court (high self-efficacy and performance in attack), constituted by midfielders and forwards; and defensive-offensive players (high self-efficacy and attack and defense performance), consisting of forwards, midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers. It is concluded that a high self-efficacy favors higher levels of athletic performance, and that the player's attacking or defensive tendency is multifactorial (physical, technical, tactical and psychological) and product of his historical-sport development (coach influence, game philosophy and demarcation).
