The aim is to present the subject 'Introduction to the Health System', two European credits, taught in the first term of the first year of the Bachelor of Medicine, a joint degree of Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Concepts reviewed in the theoretical lectures (10 h) and practical sections (20 h) are related to health and disease, prevention, diagnosis and treatment, quality of life related to health or the role of social determinants on health, and funding and quality of medical care. Rose, McKeown and Cochrane books are used to present and debate all theses concepts. This early experience of future physicians taking a more social and population perspective into health and diseases, can help them integrate in more holistically manner independently of the medical specialty they finally choose, the basic and clinical knowledge they will receive during the rest of the studies.
