Introduction:
Educational climate is a key factor for academic success.
Aim:
To identify the relationship between educational climate and sociodemographic characteristics in students of Nursery at the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (Chile), in order to contribute to the assessment of the implemented curricular innovation by broadening its vision and promoting its progress.
Subjects and methods:
Descriptive-correlational model of study. To assess educational climate, Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) and a sociodemographic questionnaire were used. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS v. 15. Cronbach's alpha index was 0.86.
Results:
Maximal score reached was 132 ± 45.26, thus a positive vision of the career was found among its students. They also appreciate clinical skills in their professors, but also claim that they have academic overload and few support to manage stress. Student's academic year was the only factor that influences students' perception of educational climate.
Conclusions:
It is necessary to intervene problematic areas detected by the study. DREEM is a useful instrument to assess educational climate.
