MAROTO-EDO, Myriam; BARBERIA-LEACHE, Elena y PLANELLS DEL POZO, Paloma. Clinical study of mineral trioxide aggregate in pulpotomy procedures on primary molars: a 15 months pilot study. RCOE [online]. 2004, vol.9, n.1, pp.23-30. ISSN 1138-123X.
Introduction: Formocresol is the material which has been most widely used for pulpotomy procedures in primary teeth during years. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of using Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) as an alternative to formocresol in those treatments. Materials and method:A total of 52 primary molars were selected for pulpotomy treatment with MTA. The follow-up examinations were carried out each 3 months, during 15 months. Results: In this study, all the molars treated have shown a clinically satisfactory response as none of them has shown any signs of pathological nature. Radiological images of reparative dentine were detected inside the root canals. Conclusions: According to this study, MTA would present good properties, enabling it to be an alternative to formocresol for pulpotomy procedures in primary molars.
