URRIALDE, Rafael. Update about reformulated beverages with less and free sugars for Spain and Portugal. Nutr. Hosp. [online]. 2020, vol.37, n.spe2, pp.28-33. Epub 28-Dic-2020. ISSN 1699-5198. https://dx.doi.org/10.20960/nh.03353.
If we want to carry out sugar-free alternative beverages and reformulations of the beverages with full sugar in which they are reduced, at the same time we need to give a good palatability and reduce sweetness taste. An appropriate strategy is the use of different low and non-calorie sweeteners that can also be used as a tool to reduce the sugar and calorie content of food and beverages using low and non-caloric sweeteners adequately. Consumers may control the consumption of foods and beverages for decreasing compensatory effects and indulgence that avoids not reducing effectively the total intake of sugar and calories in the diet. Reformulation approaches have begun to be made for existing soft drinks to reduce the sugar content since the beginning of the 21st century, together with the market increase of alternatives without sugar or without added sugars. This sugar reduction has been possible and the percentage of beverages low calorie soft drinks have increased significantly since 2016.
