Resumen
ANDREU MARTINEZ, F. J. y MARTINEZ MATEU, J. M.. Radiotherapy in the prevention of skin metastases in patients with pleural mesothelioma underwent invasive diagnostic and therapeutic processes. Oncología (Barc.) [online]. 2006, vol.29, n.6, pp.35-38. ISSN 0378-4835.
Malignant seeding of cancer cells by pleural liquid spreading through the pathway of perforating diagnostic and therapeutic procedures is a common complication appearing in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma. Prophylactic radiotherapy seems to reduce the incidence of chest wall metastases at the incision sites. However, no agreement has been reached among the specialists about its usefulness or efficacy. The purpose of the case we report is to review the role of radiotherapy in preventing the metastatic skin nodules appearing at the sites of invasive diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma.
