Resumen
PI URGELL, Juan y VERICAT QUERALT, José Alberto. Brånemark Novum®: a new alternative for rehabitation of the lower totally edentulous jaw. RCOE [online]. 2002, vol.7, n.1, pp.21-28. ISSN 1138-123X.
Brånemark Novum® is a new treatment concept that combines one-stage surgery and immediate loading fixtures for lower totally edentulous jaw rehabilitation, establishing a treatment protocol allowing the delivery of the final prosthesis the same day. This technique was developed by Prof. Per-Ingvar Brånemark and coworkers. During three years they treated 50 patients with 150 fixtures and the success rate was 98%. The report describes the surgical and prosthetical treatment and our clinical experience with this technique. In the Brånemark Osseointegration Center Barcelona during the period 1998-2000, seventy five fixtures were placed in 50 patients with a success rate of 92%. The minimum follow-up time was six months and the maximum 2 years. Based on the material presented, it can be concluded that Brånemark Novum® is a predictable treatment in the lower totally edentulous jaw rehabilitation using immediate loading fixtures and a fixed and permanent prosthesis representing a new treatment alternative.
