Resumen
PARDELL, Helios et al. Utilization of CME credits for professional recertification: Description of the first Spanish experience of voluntary physicians’ recertification". Educ. méd. [online]. 2003, vol.6, n.4, pp.127-133. ISSN 1575-1813.
After having analysed the current situation of recertification-relicensure, the very first experience about recertificación-relicensure of physicians in Spain, carried out by the Catalan Council of the Colleges of Physician (Catalan Medical Association), is described. The authors analyse the first 105 granted diplomas (DAC-FMC) showing that the 40% of them are corresponding to female physicians; that 70.5% of the applicants are working in primary health care level; that 71.3% of them are specialist in medical specialities; and that the average of provided CME credits by them was 17.7 (19.27-25.00, CI 95%). They conclude that the profile of the applicants fit the Catalan physicians one, therefore the results are not biased in favour of any professional group. Furthermore, this initiative partially responds to the worrying question on the utility of the CME credits, and provides the essential elements of the needed recertification-relicensure programme to be implemented in Spain by professional organizations.
