Resumen
ARCARAZO GARCIA, LA.. Dr. Franco García Bragado, the military doctor that modernised surgery in Huesca. Sanid. Mil. [online]. 2017, vol.73, n.2, pp.129-139. ISSN 1887-8571. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s1887-85712017000200010.
Dr. Franco García Bragado’s profesional life covers two well differenciated facets: As a military doctor he was involved both in the African War (more precisely in the Alhucemas disembarkation) and in the Spanish Civil War. The second, and longer facet was as a civilian doctor after having passed the official exam to cover a vacant position of surgeon at Huesca Provincial Hospital, appointed by Huesca Diputación Provincial (Provincial Government). Thus, he was a priviledged witness of the evolution of the Spanish Health System from the very beginning: from Gen. Primo de Rivera’s dictatorship, to the changes implemented during the Second Republic and, eventually, those introduced by Gen.Franco. He experienced this transformation from his positions of surgeon and Director of Huesca Provincial Hospital, and President of Huesca Medical College which provided him with a priceless global vision of the issue.
